Briefly describe your graduate project: I'm studying the potential for depletion of walleye pollock by the commercial fishery, specifically within and around Steller sea lion habitat (R/101-02).

Why did you choose UAF? I wanted to do fisheries work on the West Coast, and UAF has a premier fisheries program. In addition, I have always felt a need to make Alaska my home for part of my life.

Favorite pastimes and hobbies: I enjoy almost any outdoor activity including sailing, SCUBA, rock climbing, hiking, snowboarding and surfing. Indoors I spend a lot of time playing and listening to reggae. I look forward to finishing and doing some serious world traveling!

Most interesting educational experience so far: Learning the math behind stock assessment has been very interesting. Traveling to conferences has also been good as well as spending time aboard research vessels in the Gulf of Alaska. I look forward to presenting my research in Australia this December!

Future plans: Good question—stock assessment, environmental work. I suppose it depends upon what comes along when the time is right.
