Briefly describe your graduate project: I'm looking at genetic
and environmental effects on development and otolith formation in pink
salmon from Auke Creek, Alaska (R/31-06).
Why did you choose UAF? It has a relatively well-funded marine science program and strong affiliations with state and federal agencies conducting fisheries-oriented research.
Favorite pastimes and hobbies: My kids, traveling, tropical scuba diving, and movies.
Most interesting educational experience so far: Radio-tagging marine mammals in California and Mexico, and presenting a talk about my study regarding the effects of environment and inheritance on otolith formation in pink salmon at the 3rd International Symposium on Fish Otolith Research in Townsville, Australia.
Future plans: To continue working as a fisheries biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game at their Mark, Tag, and Age Laboratory in Juneau.
