Alaska Marine Policy Forum

map of Alaska

Every two months Alaska professionals—in government, the fishing industry, NGOs, scientists, and others—call in to update each other on events and changes in marine policy and regulations at the state, regional, and national level.

News about upcoming legislation, research funding, and state and federal marine policy issues is valuable in Alaska, a state deeply dependent on marine resources.

The Alaska Marine Policy Forum was launched in 2009 by Molly McCammon, Alaska Ocean Observing System director and a member of the Alaska Sea Grant Advisory Committee, and Paula Cullenberg, Alaska Sea Grant director. McCammon and Cullenberg develop each agenda and host the calls.

A 2013 survey showed that strengths of the hour-long forum are the broad scope of topics, hearing from congressional and legislative staff, receiving timely information, and confirming or refuting rumors. Summaries for each call are available online.

Alaskans are invited to call in! To receive forum reminders via email, please contact Sue Keller.

The calls take place every other month on the fourth Wednesday at 1:00 pm Alaska time. The dates are customarily announced on the home pages of Alaska Sea Grant and AOOS.
