The Alaska Young Fishermen’s Summit (AYFS), a nationally recognized event, helps new commercial fishermen gain skills to effectively run a successful business, and gives them the opportunity to develop professional networks.

To date, more than 360 fishermen and crew from 45 ports throughout Alaska have attended AYFS.

Why donations are so helpful

Our participants are just starting in their businesses and often have to travel to the event, so we keep the registration fees artificially low. Your donations help subsidize their participation.

For this reason, contributions like yours are well-acknowledged in printed conference materials, our conference website, and our Facebook page. Gifts are tax-deductible, and donors can opt out of further contact from the university if desired.

“Incredible panels with a lot of experience and willingness to help us with any issue we needed to discuss.” —Christopher Durnil, F/V Kruzof, longline crew, Seward

“The real important part is the network of young fishermen from around the state, and they also get to meet decision makers from the Board of Fish and North Pacific Fishery Management Council.” —Eric Jordan, steering committee member, Sitka
