Travel awards
There are 5 types of travel awards that attendees may be eligible to apply for.
Alaska Space Grant travel scholarship
Alaska Space Grant travel scholarship for students that want to present. Awards are $2000, and only 10 awards are available.
Undergraduate Research & Scholarly Activity (URSA) spring travel scholarship
URSA spring travel scholarship is for undergraduate students that want to attend. Contact Eric Goddard, UAF Bristol Bay Campus, for mentor sponsorship.
UAF faculty travel awards
All tenure-track and temp faculty, plus post-docs, are eligible for UAF faculty travel awards.
Alaska EPSCoR travel awards for community members, outside agencies, tribal affiliates, and others
Alaska EPSCoR is offering travel awards up to $3,500 for community members, outside agencies, tribal affiliates, and others interested in Alaska NSF EPSCoR’s STEM capacity-building work to travel to Dillingham, Alaska, to attend the 2023 Western Alaska Interdisciplinary Science Conference and Forum.
The deadline to apply for EPSCoR WAISC travel awards is March 3. Awards will be announced March 10. Use our online form to apply for the non-UA participant travel awards.

EPSCoR award conditions
- Awardee will adhere to all UA COVID-19 regulations.
- Awardee will work with their appropriate travel and/or procurement department and follow their internal departmental procedures.
- Awardee will confirm prior approval, and make any arrangements with their department.
- Awardee will initiate related expense reports, if needed, within 15 days of trip completion.
- Awardee will provide timely copies of travel/registration documents to Alaska NSF EPSCoR upon request.
Within 15 days of completion of travel or event, awardee must submit a brief (1 page maximum) summary report and relevant photo to ua-epscor@alaska.edu outlining the purpose of the participation, the nature of the event, and how it benefited the awardee and the University of Alaska. Any materials presented at the event or resulting from this award must include the following language: “This material is based upon work supported by the National Science Foundation under award #OIA-1757348 and the State of Alaska.”
EPSCoR review process
Applications will be reviewed by Alaska NSF EPSCoR leadership. Preference will be given to applicants who are students, early career faculty, EPSCoR-affiliated, or submitting an abstract to give an oral or poster presentation.
