The Alaska Aquaculture Permitting Guide is designed to assist individuals with navigating the leasing and permitting process for marine aquaculture (shellfish, invertebrates, seaweed) in the state of Alaska.
This guidance document:
• outlines the steps necessary to obtain state and federal permits and a state lease to conduct commercial aquaculture activities in Alaska;
• provides information on permit and lease amendments, renewals, and transfers;
• lists general resources for growers; and
• provides an overview of the state and federal statutes and local ordinances governing aquaculture in Alaska.
*Finfish farming is illegal in Alaska state waters.
