Every Halibut Counts: Improving Release Survival of Sport Caught Halibut

Deborah Mercy

Description

About half of all halibut caught by Alaska anglers are released due to regulation or fisherman preference. It is important to release these fish so that they will survive. This video offers sport fishermen techniques for gently releasing caught halibut to minimize injury. The gentle handling practices are recommended by a steering committee of six charter boat captains and an advisor from both the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and the International Pacific Halibut Commission.
