Resilient Communities and Economies

A sampling of Alaska Sea Grant activities

More than 70 percent of Alaska's 700,000 residents live along the coast. Less than 10 percent of coastal communities are connected by road; most are accessible only by boat or airplane. This "lack of connection" is a defining feature and often is relished by residents, but it also creates challenges. High energy costs, climate change, economic resiliency, extractive resource development, water safety, and food security and safety are of concern. A diverse economic base is critical to the well being of Alaska communities.
