Anchorage, Alaska—The Alaska Young Fishermen's Summit II is a two-day leadership symposium December 11–12 at the Anchorage Sheraton Hotel that is designed for young and new Alaska fishermen.

The summit has two main goals. The first goal is to build leadership capacity in participants by providing information and training in:

A second goal is to provide young fishermen an opportunity to learn from and network with established fishermen, other industry leaders, and each other.

The summit will kick off with a reception with members of the North Pacific Fishery Management Council on the evening of December 10 at the Hilton Hotel in Anchorage. Todd Palin will give a brief address to this group. The workshop portion of the summit will take place on December 11 and 12 at the Sheraton Hotel in Anchorage. Keynote speakers will be Arne Fuglvog, Natural Resources and Fisheries Assistant to Senator Lisa Murkowski, and Robin Samuelson, President and CEO of Bristol Bay Economic Development Corporation. A complete list of speakers can be seen on the agenda link at the Summit Web site.

Two optional workshops are also scheduled for December 13. The first is an all-day Drills Instructor safety course offered by the Alaska Marine Safety Education Association. The second is a half-day Introduction to Direct Marketing course offered by the Alaska Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program.

Many summit attendees will be able to attend because of generous travel scholarships provided by fishing associations and individual fishermen from around the state. Tremendous general support from these groups, as well as from processors and other members of the fishing industry, also allowed conference organizers to reduce registration fees for all attendees by half.

Late registration for the Alaska Young Fishermen's Summit II (AYFS II) is at the door at the Sheraton Hotel in Anchorage and is $100.
