Conference on the future of Alaska's fishing communities starts Thursday

Anchorage, Alaska—Community leaders, seafood processors, fishermen and government representatives will meet September 21–22, 2006, at the Anchorage Hilton to discuss ways to build a sustainable fishing economy for coastal Alaska.
Alaska's Fishing Communities: Harvesting the Future is sponsored by the Alaska Sea Grant College Program and NOAA Fisheries.
The conference will feature two noteworthy speakers:
Chandrika
Sharma, with the International Collective in Support of Fishworkers in Chennai,
India, will speak about the sustainability of rural fishing communities in
the global marketplace.
John
Kearney of Nova Scotia, Canada, will address how communities can plan community
sustainability.
Both speakers will be available for media interviews at the conference.
