Monitoring Bird Migration on the Copper River Delta’s Barrier Islands
Nov. 8th at 7:00 PM
By River Gates - PWSSC - Meet at the Forest Service conf. room upstairs.
The Copper River Delta’s barrier islands sit only a few miles offshore of the delta and host a variety of unique habitats. Almost nothing is known about the seasonal importance of the barrier islands for migratory birds. Biologists from the Science Center established a field camp on Egg Island this summer to intensively study the migration of shorebirds. Thousands of birds were documented using Egg Island during their southbound migration. Join us for a slide show on this year’s preliminary results and stories of living on the windswept barrier islands.
