Biology and Management of Exploited Crab Populations under Climate Change
25th Lowell Wakefield Fisheries Symposium
Hotel Captain Cook
Anchorage, Alaska
March 10–13, 2009
Contact: Alaska Sea Grant, fyconf@uaf.edu
This symposium brought together international crab fishery scientists and managers to share insights into the mechanisms behind synergistic effects of human and natural causes of fluctuations and collapses of crab stocks and fisheries around the world. The organizers of this symposium sought to foster a comparative approach across different marine ecosystems in the face of climate change and variable exploitation rates.
Discussions took a process-oriented approach by focusing on the mechanisms behind crab population-level responses relevant to fisheries management in an ecosystem context. Submissions from arctic to tropical ecosystems were encouraged.
