This symposium will address the effects of human-caused and natural fluctuations and collapses of crab stocks and fisheries worldwide. The organizers seek to foster a comparative approach across different marine ecosystems in the face of climate change. Rather than a geographic focus on crabs in cold-water regions, this symposium takes a process-oriented approach by focusing on the mechanisms behind crab population-level responses relevant to fisheries management in an ecosystem context. Submissions from arctic to tropical ecosystems are encouraged.

Topics
This call for papers seeks contributions (oral and poster presentations) on crab stocks especially, but not limited to, the following topics:
- New understandings of crab biology and life history and their relevance to management approaches
- Mechanisms of case histories of crab fishery collapses or resiliency
- Effects of fishing on biological attributes and ecological interactions, such as size at maturity or sex ratios
- Effects of climate change on crabs and their interactions with predators and prey, such as through differential shifts in distribution or abundance
- Relationships between crabs and marine ecosystem structure and dynamics, such as keystone species or other critical roles they play in the ecosystem, their trophic level, or their relationship to ecosystem production
- Crab fishery management and rebuilding strategies
- Crab stock enhancement, rehabilitation, and introduction efforts
Student Award
Two special awards will be presented at the symposium, one for best student oral presentation and one for best student poster. Each winner will receive a $250 cash award. If you wish to be considered for a student presentation award, check the box on the abstract submission form.
Abstract Submission
To contribute either an oral or poster presentation, submit an abstract no later than November 14, 2008, using the online abstract submission form.

Abstracts must include:
- Type of presentation preferred (oral or poster).
- Topic area from above list, or suggest a topic.
- Title, in upper/lowercase type, using as few words as possible.
- Author(s) names as they should appear in the abstract book; full affiliation and mailing address; and phone, fax, and email address. Use superscript style.
- Name of presenter and contact person if different from first author.
- Text of abstract in 250 words or less; do not include any headings, tables, figures or references. If paragraphs in your abstract are particularly long, please break them up into smaller paragraphs of 170 words or less, especially if you use the online submission form.
