Description
This research demonstrated outbreeding depressive effects that illustrate the importance of interactive genetic influences in adaptation to local environments. Although the hybrid crosses in this study would rarely occur naturally, the results show that outbreeding depression can occur in salmonids. Therefore outbreeding depression needs to be carefully considered when making decisions that might expose wild populations to non-native fish or when breeding hybrids in general.
