Description

During an investigation of a meiobenthic intertidal community in southeastern Alaska, a new species of harpacticoid copepod was discovered. Acrenhydrosoma macalli, about 1 mm in length, was collected from a muddy beach in Auke Bay. The new species is named for Dr. John McCall, a researcher of intertidal harpacticoid copepods who assisted the authors with taxonomy. The harpacticoid copepod fauna of Alaska is poorly known.
