Analyses of Harvest Strategies for Pandalid Shrimp Populations

Add to cart

Description

The authors looked at harvest strategies for northern shrimp based on population parameters and features of recruitment and natural mortality in Kachemak Bay, Alaska. They conclude that annual sampling, at least when the fishery is being prosecuted, as well as a good understanding of natural mortality, are essential for sound management of fisheries. When sampling occurs only once every 2 or 3 years, overestimation of recruitment or underestimation of natural mortality deteriorates the conservation benefits of the fishery management strategy.
