Typically division was initiated in 90% or more of the eggs in clutches fertilized by male hardshell golden king crabs of 107 mm or more carapace length, from Prince William Sound, Alaska. Male crabs with only one chela, and those with post-molt carapaces 11 days old and older, were found to be effective parents. Journal of Crustacean Biology 21(2):384-387.
