Description
This laboratory study measured the ability of Tanner and Dungeness crabs to offset nutritional deficits through post-starvation compensatory feeding, as might be encountered after escaping from abandoned crab fishing pots. Crabs sometimes remain in derelict pots until the escape mechanism of biodegradable twine disintegrates. Neither species markedly increased its consumption rate to compensate for nutritional deficits. For full text see http://www.adfg.state.ak.us/pubs/afrb/vol1_n2/paulv1n2.pdf.
