Description
The authors cite strategies to identify bacterial genes that (1) produce toxic compounds and (2) establish relationships between bacteria and algae. They suggest that a transposon mutagenesis strategy can be used to identify genes involved in harmful algal bloom events. This work adds to the knowledge base for the eventual isolation of "toxin genes." Journal of Phycology 35:1390-1396.
